A new Web site has created a stir this week in the Fort Bend County courthouse.What is notable about the site, beyond its stark colors, mysterious name and its lengthy blog entries, is its author: convicted murderer Bart Whitaker of Sugar Land.
Whitaker, 27, was sentenced to death in March for orchestrating the Dec. 10, 2003, shooting deaths of his mother and brother, and he has been living on death row since this summer.So it came as a shock to many to find a Web site with blog-style journal entries in his name, describing everyday prison life, his ruminations on the death penalty and other assorted thoughts.Jason Clark, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, said inmate-penned Web sites have been appearing increasingly in recent years, even though inmates are not granted any access to the Internet, much less the ability to create a Web site.
